Ready for sunsets on the beach?

The extraordinary love of other mothers, and deeply healing experiences?

 Yes, please!

The Bold Journey Back to Joy ... even the title of this Retreat dares us to dream about a life we feel reticent to consider.

Do we think it's possible to rediscover joy?

Is it okay to experience peace and feel joy, given the enormity of our loss?

Our mindchatter runs WILD about this.

And yet ...

This IS what's on offer. Always and forever.

A Note from Elaine ~

So yes, beautiful women, in the midst of grief I lovingly call to you, to step outside the Discomfort Zone we know so well, and into a new confidence that allows you to hold the multiple paradoxes in your life. Many in your shoes will never approach, much less embark, on this Journey.

But stop for a moment and consider this ... Allowing the LIGHT in allows you to fully LIVE within your loss. Sensitive to your heartbreak, fully honoring your child ... AND ... boldly choosing your own precious life that beckons you to make room for joy.

You are invited to join us for a grounding, heart-opening experience ~

  • Connection with Retreat moms on Zoom, a guided Session online before the Retreat and one afterwards
  • Targeted Tools & Processes to learn to live within your loss
  • A safe haven to feel your feelings and say what needs to be said
  • Time and space to receive the specific support you need

More about this Retreat

In honor of my son's life, I'm committed to bringing 25 years of workshop & retreat experience into providing the most healing and uplifting experience for all of us. This Retreat is limited to 16 women who are intentional about being real, growing and healing. It is nondenominational.

REGISTERING EARLY is important! When you read ACCOMODATIONS below, you'll see why.

Location: Plum Island, Massachusetts. We'll meet in the light-filled, beachfront home of my friend, Barbara Hopkinson, a mother who has also faced traumatic child loss and has dedicated her life to supporting others in grief. Barb is the founder of A Butterfly's Journey nonprofit.

The best airport to fly into is Boston's Logan International, 45-75 minutes by Uber ($60-75) or $15 by train. Another airport option is Manchester Boston Regional (MHT). You will receive flight schedules of other moms in case you want to ride together.

Our Schedule Overview: We’ll accomplish a lot in a relatively short time, with breaks & time to breathe in the ocean air :) Please note that this Retreat begins midday Friday and is an important part of the experience. All beach activiites are weather permitting, of course. Typical temperatures: High 72, Low 53.

Friday, September 20:

  • Arrive at Barb's house as early as 11am to get settled.
  • Meet @12:00pm for lunch together and our Opening Session which will complete at 4pm.
  • Take the rest of the afternoon to rest, walk on the beach or explore the town.
  • We'll meet at a delicious seaside restaurant for dinner at 7pm, and back at the house for a brief gathering afterwards.

Saturday, September 21:

  • Optional Yoga Morning Stretch & Stroll @ 7:30am on the beach
  • Breakfast @ 8:15am - 9am
  • Meet 9:30am – 5:30, with lunch & snack breaks
  • After dinner, a special gathering!

Sunday, September 22:

  • Optional Yoga Morning Stretch & Stroll @ 7:30am on the beach
  • Breakfast @ 8:15am - 9am
  • Meet @9:30am– 3pm with lunch & snack breaks.
  • It's important to complete with the group at 3pm, please arrange your flight accordingly.

Enjoy a mini-vacation while you're at it! Arrive ahead of the Retreat or stay over afterwards. If you need more understanding of the area, Barb can provide feedback, please contact Elaine.

Meals: Delicious meals & snacks are included and specially prepared for us. Included in your fee is Lunch on Friday, 3 meals on Saturday, and 2 meals on Sunday, plus snacks. As we get closer, you will be asked for food preferences. When we dine out together on Friday night, each person is responsible for their own dinner.

Accomodations for Friday and Saturday Nights: Hotels are pricey, therefore I've selected Airbnbs for us with Barbara's amazing help through her network. We'll stay at Barb's & other homes on Plum Island, most within a short walk. Your Retreat fee covers your Airbnb for Friday & Saturday nights, so if you need to stay Thursday night in order to be with us by noon on Friday, I'll reach back to you for the addtional fee for that night's stay. If you plan to arrive even earlier or stay after the Retreat I'll do my best to help you connect with the Airbnb owner and potentially add nights. You can always find your own Airbnb for those add-on days, of course.

If you do not need accomodations, please contact Elaine for program cost.

About Elaine Alpert, M.Ed

Elaine and Tom lost their bright, sensitive 16-year-old son Rand to suicide in 2004, on their younger son's 9th birthday. Within a few weeks Elaine met Iris Bolton, a leader in suicide prevention and aftercare and author of My Son, My Son, a book that has brought healing to those facing this tragedy for over 40 years. What a gift to know such a powerful and loving mentor so early in her grief!

Iris and Elaine became close friends which eventually led to co-presenting at national conferences. In 2016, Iris invited Elaine to create an online Companion Course to her latest book, Voices of Healing and Hope. This online interactive course, Pathway to Peace of Mind, is available to anyone struggling with loss by suicide. There is also a version available for mothers facing loss by overdose. The results have been impactful in many women's lives and now addtional programs for moms, wives and partners are available.

Elaine formed a nonprofit, MindPeace Miracles, and Iris joined the board. The mission is to support mothers and families who are facing significant loss with tool-based educational programs, to go beyond surviving to thriving by developing deep meaning, purpose, joy and gratitude for life once again. MindPeace Miracles accepts donations to offset program costs and to sponsor women into these programs who require financial assistance.

Elaine holds a graduate degree with specializations in Transformative Learning, Integrative Health and Trauma Healing. She wrote her thesis, ‘Fostering Resilience: Conscious Engagement with Life As It Is’ as academic groundwork for The MindPeace Method®, a proprietary educational program for personal and community healing when life becomes especially challenging.

She has been a certified Trainer for the More To Life Foundation for 20+ years, leading dynamic workshops and retreats internationally. Elaine is also a licensee of More To Life tools which form a core of The MindPeace Method®. In addition, this method draws from the fields of experiential education, leadership development, mindfulness, transpersonal psychology, mind/body medicine, neuroscience, energy psychology, indigenous practices, spirituality, and a broad range of the arts.

Elaine and Tom live in Atlanta GA, celebrating 32 years of marriage and have a 24-year-old son.

She is committed to the deeper dive, to receiving what Life is teaching us through the difficult, exhilarating, painful, and beautiful moments of our lives. She provides bold insights within a safe learning environment of creativity, connection, acceptance, and encouragement. Participants gain a toolbox of practices to become more real, more loving … more at peace in their own skin.
